Central Cuba Bike Tour: Detailed Itinerary

Old Havana

Day 1, Saturday
Arrive at Jos� Mart� International Airport, Havana.
Accommodation at the Hotel Tel�grafo or a similar one. Dinner at the hotel followed by a familiarization meeting allowing the members of the group to get to know each other and their guide.

Day 2, Sunday
Havana City tour
Breakfast at the hotel followed by a briefing on the itinerary and some information about Cuba. Afterwards, the bus will leave for the historic area of Old Havana for a walking tour. The tour is followed by a visit to the Partag�s cigar factory from where the group will travel by horse-drawn vehicles to the Rum Museum, Havana’s Capital building and the Jos� Mart� Memorial. Lunch will be at the El Aljibe restaurant, followed by a visit to the more modern part of this beautiful city and its residential area, Miramar.
Dinner this evening will be early to allow for an 8:15 pm departure to the Firing of the Canon at the Morro-Caba�a Fort overlooking the city. The canon is fired at 9:00 pm each evening and the people of Havana set their watches by it.

Day 3, Monday
Havana to Santa Clara (distance 322 kilometres with 40m km cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel followed by check-out. Departure by bus to the Villa Panamericana to buy water and other items for the trip. The journey continues by bus on the Villa Blanca and cycling starts at Penas Altas. The bicycle ride continues as far as the Puente de Bacunayagua, Cuba�s highest bridge (110m) which straddles the border of the provinces of Matanzas and Havana. At the bridge there will be free time to enjoy the view and the beautiful surrounding countryside. The bus then leaves for the Casa del Valle Motel for lunch. Afterwards, the bus leaves for Santa Clara, passing through the city of Matanzas for a sightseeing tour. Arrival at Santa Clara is followed by check-in to the Los Caneyes Hotel. Dinner at the hotel. Evening free.

Day 4, Tuesday
Santa Clara/Trinidad (distance of 88 km, with 42km cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel followed by check-out. Departure in bus to Trinidad passing through Manicaragua. Cycling starts in Jibacoa, crossing the Topes de Collantes National Park and continuing to Trinidad itself and the fourth, and best preserved, of the seven towns founded in Cuba by Diego Vasasquez in 1514. Trinidad is often called Cuba�s colonial jewel and in 1988 was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Accommodation is at the Hotel Brisas Trinidad del Mar at Playa Ancon (12 kilometres from Trinidad) Dinner at the hotel followed by a free evening.

Day 5, Wednesday.
Trinidad/Cienfuegos (a distance of 81 km with 50km cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel. Free time to enjoy the beach at Playa Ancon and a 10:30 am check-out. At 11:00 am there is a sightseeing tour of Trinidad, including the Romance Museum, La Chanchanchara, and lunch at El Jigue restaurant. The journey continues west, by bus, en route to the city of Cienfuegos, known as the Pearl of the South for its beauty and its location on Cuba�s central southern coast. The group will cycle from Piti Fajardo to San Francisco and then take the bus the rest of the way to Cienfuegos, where accommodation is at the Hotel Jagua. Dinner at the hotel followed by a free evening.

Cienfuegos

Day 6, Thursday
Cienfuegos (35km cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel. Walking tour of the city of Cienfuegos admiring its architecture and learning about its history. Departure on bicycles to Faro Luna arriving in time to see the show at the dolphinarium before lunch. Hotel Pasacaballo for lunch followed by a cruise across Cienfuegos bay to Castillo de Jagua. On return, we collect the bicycles for our return to Cienfuegos. The rest of the day is free, except for dinner at the Palatino Restaurant on Parque Marti in the city centre.

Day 7, Friday
Cienfuegos/Playa Giron/Playa Larga/La Habana (cycling 50 km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Check-out. Travel by bus from Cienfuegos to Covadonga and from there on bicycle to Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs). Visit to the Playa Giron Museum to learn about the Bay of Pigs Invasion here in 1961. Back on the bikes to the Cueva de los Peces Resturant for lunch before continuing the journey by bus to Havana passing through Playa Larga and with a stop at Boca de Guama to visit the crocodile farm there. Arrival in Havana where accommodation is at the famous, five star Hotel Nacional. Farewell dinner at the Caf� de Oriente on the Plaza de San Francisco de Asis in Old Havana followed by return to the hotel and a free evening.

Day 8, Saturday
Havana
Breakfast at the hotel. Free morning. Check-out at noon followed by transfer to the airport and departure from the country or stay n Cuba to enjoy more cycling or diving or other activities.
