Western Cuba Bike Tour: Detailed itinerary

Day 1, Saturday
Arrive at Jos� Mart� International Airport, Havana. Accommodation at the Hotel Tel�grafo or a similar hotel. Dinner at the hotel followed by a familiarization meeting allowing the group to get to know each other and their guide.

Day 2, Sunday
Havana City tour
Breakfast at the hotel followed by a briefing on the itinerary and some information about Cuba. Afterwards, the bus will leave for the historic area of Old Havana for a walking tour. The tour is followed by a visit to the Partag�s cigar factory from where the group will travel by horse-drawn vehicles to the Rum Museum, Havana’s Capital building and the Jos� Mart� memorial. Lunch will be at the El Aljibe restaurant, followed by a visit to the more modern part of this beautiful city and its residential area Miramar.

Dinner this evening will be early to allow for an 8:15 pm departure to the Firing of the Canon at the Morro-Caba�a Fort overlooking the city. The canon is fired at 9:00 pm each evening and people in Havana set their watches by it.

Soroa

Day 3, Monday
Havana/Soroa (A distance of 80km with 60 km cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel. Following check-out, bus transfer to the PALCO shopping centre (beside Club Habana) to buy water and other items for the journey. The bus will continue to Playa Baracoa where the bicycles will be checked and the cycling will begin, heading along the Western Highway towards Mariel. From there the group will travel south through the Sierra de Rosario, a mountain range declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1985 and will arrive at Rancho Curujey for lunch. Next the journey will continue by bus to Soroa, one of the area�s most beautiful attractions. It is a place of natural beauty renowned for its waterfall and its world famous orchid gardens, a guided tour of which will take place on arrival.

Accommodation will be at the Villa Soroa and the afternoon will be free to enjoy the swimming pool or the activites offered there such as horseback riding or hill climbing. Dinner will be at the hotel and the evening is free.

Day 4, Tuesday
Soroa/Vi�ales Valley (a distance of 130 km with 37 km cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel. Cycling west to the Entronque de los Palacios with a picnic lunch en route. The bus will then bring the group to the La G�ira National Park., the former estate of the rich landowner, Manuel Cortina. The bus will travel on to Vi�ales Valley to view the mogotes, unusual buttes with flattened tops.

Accommodation at the Hotel Los Jazmines for three nights. Dinner at the hotel and evening free.

Day 5, Wednesday
Cycling at Vi�ales Valley (45km cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel followed by cycling through the valley, visiting nearby tobacco plantations and continuing west towards the Gran Caverna de Santo Tomas. The group will tour the cavern and then return on the bikes to see the prehistoric mural in Vi�ales Valley. Lunch will be at The Mural Restaurant and return to the hotel by bus.

The rest of the day is free, except for dinner at the hotel.

Day 6, Thursday
Visit to Cayo Levisa (60km or less cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel. Cycling from Vi�ales Valley to La Palma (31 km). If there is enough time, the group will cycle to Palma Rubia arriving at 11:00 am for the ferry to Cayo Levisa. We will lunch at Cayo Levisa and spend the afternoon enjoying the optional activities such as swimming, snorkelling, volleyball, or enjoying a catamaran.

At 5:00 pm the ferry will return to Palma Rubia and we will then return to the hotel by bus.
Dinner at the hotel. Free evening.

Vi�ales Valley

Day 7, Friday
Vi�ales Valley/Las Terrazas/La Habana (Distance 189 km with 15km cycling)
Breakfast at the hotel, followed by departure for the Las Terrazas community where a guided tour, by bicycle, will take place. The group then will continue by bicycle to the Buena Vista coffee plantation where there will be a guided tour followed by lunch. After lunch the journey will continue by bus to Havana where accommodation will be in the five-star Hotel Nacional.

Farewell dinner at the Caf� de Oriente restaurant on the Plaza de San Francisco de As�s in Old Havana. Return to the hotel and the rest of the evening will be free.

Day 8, Saturday
Havana
Breakfast at the hotel. Check-out at midday will mark the end of our tour and will be followed by transfer to the airport for departure from the country or you can opt to spend more time in Cuba for additional cycling, diving or enjoying other activities.
