Cayo Largo del Sur
Cayo Largo del Sur is the
second largest island of the Canarreos Archipelago. It is
located between the Gulf of Batabanó and the Caribbean
Sea, 114 kilometers (71 miles) to the east of the Isle of
Youth, 80 kilometers (50 miles) to the south of the Zapata
Peninsula. This lovely place boasts 26 kilometers (16.2 miles)
of white sands, crystal clear waters and unexplored depths.
It's beautiful beaches include Playa Blanca, Playa Lindamar,
Playa Sirena, Playa Luna, Playa Tortuga and Playa Los Cocos.
Here one can practice all kinds of nautical sports including
deep sea fishing and fly fishing.
Restaurant at Hotel Sol Club Cayo Largo
The most beautiful beach is Playa Sirena which
is reached by a short boat trip from the marina. Cayo Largo
del Sur offers an ideal environment to see great pelagic species
of fish. The area is also under very strict ecological protection
to safeguard it's reefs and sea life.
From Cayo Largo there are excursions by yacht
to various nearby keys like Cayo Rico, Cayo Iguana, Cayo Pájaros,
Cayo Cantiles and Cayo Rosario. Access to Cayo Largo is via
yacht or private plane with no visa required, or by flights
from Varadero or Havana.
Accommodations: Club Sol Cayo Largo (five-star,
all inclusive) is our choice, but one can also stay at any
of the other three and four-star hotels: Villa Capricho, Villa
Iguana, Villa Coral, Villa Soledad, Isla del Sur, and Hotel
Pelícano.
