Telephone service
varies greatly in quality from place to place despite major improvements
in recent years. The problem for Cubans starts with simply getting
a telephone line, and many have waited long years with no luck. Those
who have telephones, however, enjoy fairly reliable service both within
cities and long distance between cities. Public telephones are widely
available, and large numbers of public telephones have been installed
that use prepaid debit cards, also widely available at US 10 and
20.
For most visitors the main communications concern is keeping in touch
with people outside Cuba, and for this the system usually works well.
Practically all
hotels have good international telephone service, both for receiving
calls from abroad and for dialing from Cuba. Most hotels offer telephone
service in the lobby for non-guests, and many have installed direct
international dialing from guest rooms. International calls can also
be made from public telephones using the prepaid debit cards.
Cellular telephones
are also available for rent by visitors although lack of installations
reduces their use to the major cities and tourist areas.
Cubalinda.com can

Fax
Practically all hotels offer reception and sending of fax messages
both within Cuba and internationally for guests and non-guests alike.
Internet
Some visitors bring
laptop computers and portable printers for use in Cuba. Temporary
internet connections for visitors are available. In addition
Cuba has some cyber cafes and on-line connections possibilities.
