  Sunday
  • Arrival Havana International Airport and transfer to selected hotel. Free time.
  • 7:00 p.m. Depart hotel on foot for welcome dinner at El Patio restaurant, Cathedral Square, Old Havana. Short briefing on the week’s activities. Rest of evening free.
  Monday
  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • 9:00 a.m. Depart by bus to the offices of the Cuban Peace Movement (Movimiento Cubano por la Paz y la Soberanía de los Pueblos---MOVPAZ) in Vedado, Havana.
  • 9:30-11:00 a.m. Lecture/Discussion on MOVPAZ and Cuban realities today (the Special Period). Lecturer/Discussion Leader: Manuel E. Yepe, member of the MOVPAZ Secretariat and Coordinator of the International Workshops for Peace 2003. He is a former Cuban ambassador, and an economist, jurist, and writer.
  • Break
  • 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Lecture/Discussion on the Roots of the Cuban Revolution leading to the Moncada assault led by Fidel Castro in1953. Lecturer/Discussion Leader: Juan Jacomino, Programming Director of the English language service of Radio Havana Cuba.
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. Lunch at a local restaurant.
  • 3:00-5:30 p.m. Visit to the Morro-Cabaña fortress complex followed by guided walking tour of Old Havana.
  • Return to hotel on foot. Evening free for documentary video program, musical, cultural and sports options.
 Tuesday
  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • 9:00 a.m. Depart hotel for MOVPAZ.
  • 9:30-11:00 a.m. Lecture/Discussion on the armed struggle against the Bastista dictatorship from the Moncada assault in 1953 to the fall of Batista in 1958, continuing with the agrarian and urban reforms and nationalizations of the early 1960’s. Lecturer/Discussion Leader: Arnaldo Coro, researcher and journalist of Radio Havana Cuba.
  • Break
  • 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Lecture/Discussion on United States policy and actions against Cuba from 1959 to present with emphasis on terrorist operations of the Central Intelligence Agency. Lecturer/Discussion Leader: Philip Agee, author and former CIA officer in Latin America.
  • 1:30-3:00 p.m. Lunch at the Bodeguita del Medio restaurant.
  • 3:30-5:00 p.m. Visit to the Museum of the Revolution.
  • Return to hotel on foot. Evening free for documentary video program, musical, cultural and sports options.
 Wednesday
  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • 9:00 a.m. Depart hotel for MOVPAZ.
  • 9:30-11:00 a.m. Lecture/Discussion on Cuban foreign policy, Cuba’s medical aid program in Latin America and Africa, and Cuba’s analysis of the Anglo-American war against Iraq. Lecturer/Discussion Leader: Carlos Alzugaray Treto, former Cuban Ambassador and Professor of the Higher Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Relations.
  • Break
  • 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Discussion of a day in the life of an average Cuban. Public transportation deficiencies. The function of the rationing system and the libreta. Visits to a neighborhood bodega (subsidized food market), an agro (Cuban peso food market with fluctuating prices), and a U.S. dollar market. Discussion Leader: Alberto D. Pérez, member of the United Nations Press Office in Cuba.
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m. Lunch at El Aljibe restaurant.
  • 3:00-6:00 p.m. Visits to an urban hydroponic agricultural project, a Youth Club computing center, and a Committee for the Defense of the Revolution.
  • Return to hotel. Evening free for documentary video program, musical, cultural and sports options.
 Thursday
  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • 9:00 a.m. Depart hotel for MOVPAZ.
  • 9:30-11:00 a.m. Lecture/Discussion on Cuba’s system of government, civil society, mass organizations, NGO’s and human rights. Lecturer/Discussion Leader: Carlos Martínez Salsamendi, diplomat, economist and professor of the Higher Institute of Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Relations. For 20 years Counselor to the Vice-President of Cuba, Carlos Rafael Rodríguez.
  • Break
  • 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Lecture/Discussion on U.S. government penetration and manipulation of other countries’ civil societies and NGO’s (political parties, labor unions, information media, women’s organizations, youth and students, churches, professional and cultural societies). Lecturer/Discussion Leader: Philip Agee, former CIA officer in Latin America.
  • 1:30-3:00 p.m. Lunch at the Casa de la Amistad of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP).
  • 3:30-5:00 p.m. Analysis and discussion of world peace: the U.S. doctrine of preventive war; hidden interests behind the war against Iraq and beyond; the continuing relevance of Hiroshima; the role of the United Nations; international law and conflict resolution. Lecturer/Discussion Leader: Orlando Fundora López, President of MOVPAZ and Co-President and Latin American Coordinator of the World Peace Council.
  • Return hotel. Evening free for documentary video program, musical, cultural and sports options.
 Friday
  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • 9:00 a.m. Depart hotel by bus for Las Terrazas in the mountains of Pinar del Rio province (74 kilometers). Briefing after arrival on the history and achievements of this rural socio-economic development project (education, housing, medical care, reforestation, arts and crafts, recreation and tourism). Visits to artists’ workshops and to the restored 19th century coffee plantation known as Buena Vista.
  • 1:00-2:00 p.m. Lunch at a local restaurant. Return to Havana.
  • 3:00-4:00 p.m. Visit to the Latin American School of Medicine where thousands of students from the poorest regions of their countries (including the United States) are training as physicians on full scholarships.
  • Return hotel. Evening free for documentary video program, musical, cultural and sports options.
 Saturday
  • Breakfast in the hotel. Morning and afternoon free time.
  • 8:00 p.m. Farewell dinner at the roof terrace restaurant of the Hotel Ambos Mundos where Hemingway lived off and on in the 1930’s (walking distance from our hotels). After dinner performance by singer Dulce María and her band whose lively music invariably brings all within earshot to the dance floor.
 Sunday
  • Breakfast in the hotel. Free time.
  • 12:00 noon. Latest checkout time.
  • Transfer from hotel to Havana International Airport for departure.
